The curated fair POPPOSITIONS, which encourages new, experimental and innovative approaches to the art market has launched its open call for its 2019 Edition.
For the third edition in a row, Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk (The Office for Curating, NL) is the artistic director. He will be running, together with Rachelle Dufour as the new fair director, the 8th edition of POPPOSITIONS coinciding with the Art Brussels week from 25 to 28 April 2019.
The 8th edition of POPPOSITIONS will revolve around the term ‘woke’. The idea of being woke and wokeness concerns raising social awareness, taking actions in response to dominant paradigms, acknowledging one’s privileges towards understanding the struggles of others, and giving space to social bodies that have been silenced, unacknowledged and underrepresented. POPPOSITIONS wants to think collectively about what responses and forms of resistance can be formulated when ideologies have become trendy and woke-washing brands cash in on social justice.
The jury members for this edition are Diana Campbell Betancourt (Artistic Director at Samdani Art Foundation, BD, Chief Curator at Dhaka Art Summit,), Jessica Gysel (Founder of Girls Heart Brussels, Editor at Girls Like Us), Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk (Curator and writer at The Office for Curating), Hana Miletic (Brussels and Zagreb based artist) and Christophe Veys (Collection Veys-Verhaevert, BE).
The application deadline is on 31 December.
